The Evolution of SD-WAN in 2021
GlobalData’s research shows that, for enterprises interested in SD-WAN, security is a top priority and as a result they are asking about the SASE (secure access service edge) framework. SASE is challenging the vendor community to build multi-service, integrated solutions that reduce the need for service chaining. This change is happening due to the COVID-19 triggered acceleration in cloud/SaaS adoption and home working. Additionally, overlay networking will become a feature in wider set solution set to address this changing market dynamic.

• SASE seeks to deliver seamless security policy and functionality without service chaining
• SASE is an aspect of the coming security-networking convergence
• Vendors must do more – standalone SD-WAN won’t cut it in the future
• Home worker solutions are in their infancy – long-term solutions will combine technologies such as fiber broadband, 5G and edge
• Overlay networking has changed the market landscape irrevocably
